Greyhound    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Basic Info: Racing Name: U Too Donna Dee Nickname: Dee-Dee Sex: Female Color: Light Brindle Date Arrived: 5/20/15 Date of Birth: 04/ /06 Dee-Dee already knows how to live in a home. She started out as a racing dog but after 65 races, she was retired and in May of 2010 we adopted her to a nice family. But in May of 2015, the people that adopted her could not keep her any longer and she has come back to us. She walks well on a leash and is a loves to be around other dogs and people. She is a great creature of habit and will fit right in with your routine in no time. But yes, she is 9 years old. Greyhounds have a normal lifespan on 12 to ... (Read More)14 years so this girl is a senior but she's still got a lot of great life left in her and can bring joy and love into your home if you'll give her a chance. She's one of my favorite colors on a greyhound a light honey colored brindle. Just Beautiful!! Her previous family didn't have cats but they felt she would probably be fine around them as she has grown into a calm, low-key dog. A true couch potato!!! Got a couch (or a dog bed) with room to spare? She's already spayed and is ready for delivery. We hope she'll be coming to your house soon! If you think your place would make an excellent greyhound retirement home this greyhound would be very interested in meeting you and moving in. So please call Friends of Greyhounds at 954-578-0072 or call Michelle directly at 954-937-9663 to find out about adopting Dee-dee or one of our other wonderful greyhounds. You can arrange to come meet our dogs in our Sunrise kennel. You''ll like it and so will they! For more information about greyhounds and how to adopt one, please visit our website www.FriendsOfGreyhounds.org. Come make a fast friend today. You''ll be glad you did. (Less)

Greyhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Cowboy and I am a 1 and 1/2 yr. old, 58 pound lovebug. I love to be cuddled and will lavish you with big, sloppy kisses. I am a heartworm negative, neutered male who is fully vaccinated and current on heartworm and flea preventions. I don't mind being in my crate and I am not destructive; although I love to chomp on tennis balls. I'm a fast learner and I am eager to please my human. I love to be praised and petted. I totally enjoy my walks and my exuberance shows when you pick up the leash and I realize I'm going for a walk. Running in the yard is one of my favorite pastimes. I do have an inquisitive nature; therefore, my yard ... (Read More)will need a 6 foot fence. My foster Mom found me in a shelter that was overpopulated.     We rescued Belle from a poor home environment with a history of abuse. I have worked with her and overcame seperation anxiety and she went from being scared of us to sleeping always near us. She is great with my 4 year old but uneasy with my almost 2 year old daughter. My husband is afraid keeping her will result in our daughter being hurt. I'd like to see Belle go to a loving home with older kids or a elderly couple. She is smart and knows all her commands. She is up to date on vaccines.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Basic Information: Kennel Name: Buddy, Color: Black, DOB: 11/22/11, Cat Test: Pending Adopt the disabled! Well for now - he has a cast on his leg. We''ve been told it was an ugly break. He sure gets around well on 3 legs though and he''ll be ''heck''%9D on wheels when that thing comes off. Other than the leg, he''s perfectly healthy. But with that in place, we haven''t cat tested him as yet. (Our cat test area is my living room and walking on tile or scatter rugs in a cast doesn''t give you good footing for a cat test. One wrong move and he''d be in TWO casts!!) A few more weeks and we should be four legged ... (Read More)again. He''s a neat dog and learns the routine quickly. Seems to get along with everyone and is content with a soft cushion and a toy. He tries to run and play but is not very successful right now. He has a black shiny coat and white blaze on his chest and white tips on his feet (French tips!). His markings are almost a mirror image of Fancy '' except for the cast and''| His tail is kind of a mess. He apparently wags his tail so much that he''s slammed it on his kennel and worn a lot of the fur off of it. He''ll be a great addition to your loving, happy, SOFTER home! Now she thinks she has to be the only dog. She is VERY good with my current dog when playing, but she will not allow my dog near me in my bedroom setting, and she has attached her several times in the bed.     Red Brindle boy but an emotional basket case. He won't be 2 until July but he is already scared of the world. Webster has his photo under 'insecure' . Has great potential to be a sweet, truly dedicated dog but needs a smaller, quiet home and a patient parent or two who will seek him out to give him love. We do not know if he is cat tolerant as he is just too shy and scared to test at this time. A well fenced yard would be a MUST. If he's on a leash and gets scared, he'll be long gone. This is a special needs dog and the normal adoption fee will be discounted if that helps to get him into the right home. As for house training, he ... Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Basic Information: Name: Max, DOB: 10/4/4, Male, 9 Years Old, Color: White and Black, Racing Weight: 69 lbs. also see Molly Max and Molly were friends, more like brother and sister than say Romeo and Juliet. They raced professionally a while back and then retired. They tried the professional Shag Dancing circuit in South Carolina for a while but that didn't work out. They were adopted and lived together with a military family for over four years. Then Uncle Sam told their humans that they had to move. Anyone who knows the military knows Uncle Sam don't give a ham about your personal wants and needs, when you are assigned somewhere, you ... (Read More)go, so they did. Unfortunately Otto and Sue were not allowed to go, so they became the standard returned through no fault of their own orphans. They are now with us and are looking for their final retirement home to spend their golden years. These two have lived together and get along beautifully, so we really want to get them a home together. This pair is considered special needs along with the sick, injured, seizure, and other dogs that require special people who want and accept a little challenge. The only challenge with these special dogs is that they won't be with you for as long as the younger dogs. There is a lot to be said for adopting an older dog that a lot of people won't want, something to do with peace and satisfaction, for you and the dog. Max and Molly are not cat tolerant, or not tolerant enough to be a good fit in a home with our feline friends, so if you have a cat, you may want to pass. If you are one of those people who get great joy out of helping another soul and giving (as well as receiving) the comfort of seeing them spend their final years with dignity and can put them in a house with love and a soft bed, you will want to check out Max and Molly. Like myself, neither of these two act their age, they still have that old get up and go romp, but only for a short time just like the younger greyhounds, then it's back to the couch. I call them our pair of aces, and they would look good as a matched set, one at each end of your couch or love seat. You can call Michelle or Jerry at FOG, or email them and set up an appointment at your convenience. Although leaving the old kennel broke my heart (I was only a few minutes away), we now have the advantage of flexible visiting as opposed to the old five hours only on the weekend, you can most likely set up your most convenient time, and it's possible if you live in Broward, that they might even bring the dogs to your house to visit. It doesn't get much better than that, except maybe if they clean your house and wash your car, but don't expect that. Animal ID: 50695Rocky (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Basic Info: Name: Rocky, Color: White and Red Fawn, DOB: 05/24/09, 5 years old, Racing Weight: 71 lbs. Rocky is a brand new addition to our kennel. In the kennel he is known as Handsome, so that will probably give you a little hint on his appearance, as I have not seen him yet. Rocky is five years old, pretty average at 71 pounds racing weight, and is white with some red fawn markings. I don't have any naked pictures of him yet, just him in his working uniform and he looks to be almost completely white except for his head, which is mostly fawn, or red fawn. He looks highly intelligent, but once again, I've only seen him from his left ... (Read More)side in his working uniform, and even I look intelligent from the left side. Rocky is closer to five and a half years and he raced at least 178 times according to The Greyhound Data information I have. He was most probably a good racer, and you have to be to race that long and that many races. You can find out all of his racing and medical history from Michelle or Jerry of Friends of Greyhounds, since they have access to more information than I do not have. Our boy Handsome has a healed broken leg, most probably the rear right, but I don't know if it was an earlier injury or a recent one that might have ended his career. As previously stated, you can get both his medical and racing history from Jerry or Michelle. I do know that Handsome is a people dog. He is a heavy leaner, which means he likes to lean on people, a lot like little kids like to wrap their arms around mom or dad for security. Rocky is most probably a very loving guy, just looking for someone to pay attention to and love him. You can easily find out first hand for yourself just by visiting him in our kennel, or, it's also entirely possible that we can bring him out to meet you at your house. Our kennel hours are very flexible now, you can see him at your convenience, or, if you're close enough, he might even come to you. Contact Jerry or Michelle through the website (www.friendsofgreyhounds.org) or call, they will be happy to tell you all about this beautiful retired racer. He is not cat tolerant, so if you have a feline or are one, you might want to pass on this guy, otherwise, it only takes a call or email to start the ball rolling, and you might just make a friend for life. PIease Read Before Adopting a Greyhound in Florida
Greyhound Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Greyhound is a reserved, elegant, intelligent breed. Greyhounds are gentle, sweet companions that can be a joy to own. Greyhounds are excellent choices for adoption as adults; former racers are already crate trained and easy to housebreak, and this dog adapts well to new owners. Greyhounds have a strong chasing instinct and should not typically be trusted with non-canine animals. Greyhounds do well with older, considerate children. They do not like to be teased. A Greyhound can live in an apartment and may even behave lazily indoors, but does need daily exercise. Greyhounds are sensitive to extreme cold and should wear a coat outside in the winter.
