Animal ID: 563??Mr. Gee (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It is my pleasure to introduce you to Mister Greyhound who we lovingly call ''Mr. G''%9D or Gee. This is a classic and classy boy. He is tall and slender and happy and all the things that make a greyhound great. He has huge eyes and the happiest disposition ever. You cannot be sad with this guy. He is RED - not ''red''%9D or ''Red''%9D and most certainly not well ''read''%9D, but he is a leggy, RED dog. He tested cat tolerant and after a trip with us to Pet Supermarket, we can tell you that he tested ''gerbil/ ferret/ bunny and a few other things''%9D tolerant. That doesn't mean that if you have those ... (Read More)critters in the house, they will be playing together. But it does mean that he probably won''t go out of his way to harm them and for some, may even become friends. Gee is three as I write this but will be four in August. He is healthy, very sweet, incredibly happy and will make someone a wonderful pet. I just wish I had more room in my house. This is one awesome dog. Come meet him for yourself! Greyhounds make wonderful pets. If you are in the South Florida area, please consider adopting one of our sweet, loving and clean dogs. For more information about greyhounds in general and about adopting from Friends of Greyhounds, please visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org or join our conversation on Facebook. Our headquarters is located in Sunrise, Florida but we will deliver a dog just about anywhere in South Florida if it means a good home for him or her. These sweet creatures deserve it! Animal ID: 44234Bruiser (male)

Greyhound    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Basic Information: Racing Name: Sav's Stinger, Kennel Name: Bruiser, Color: Fawn, DOB: 09/24/07, Racing Weight: 66 lbs. Sav's Stinger, known around our kennel as Bruiser, was a strong racer with 131 races to his credit but an injury to his right rear leg catapuled him from the status of racer to adoptable pet. He was in a home for 3 1/2 years but Momma had to move and could not take Bruiser. Sometimes it just works out that way. So at the age of seven, Bruiser is retired, without a pension plan and homeless. Luckily he was able to fall back on Friends of Greyhounds. Bruiser is a nice fawn color with a skinny snout. He's solid and tall ... (Read More)but not bulky or too large. He ran 131 races in his career which is a lot! But now he only has to run for fun. He is ready to jog off into the sunset with his new human, or family. He has tested as cat tolerant, and has a sweet and gentle disposition, which will fit in with just about anyone, but is looking for that special connection which is possible when the absolute right person comes along. Greyhounds are large dogs but they curl up small and sleep long hours so they really don't take up much room in your life. They do need to go out a few times a day and like most dogs, they need food and water. But they will listen to your problems or watch TV with you. They will let you make the rules and when you take them to a nice fenced area, they will astound you with their speed and grace and then will ask you to take them home for a nap. They nap really, really well. If you're looking for a pet that will give you years of love and loyalty, these are the ones. They're bred for racing, but they love people and are considered to be some of the most loving and loyal of the dog species. They will do anything for you. So please consder a greyhound - especially Bruiser. Visit our website at: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for general information about greyhound adoption. Or email us at fogdogs@comcast.net if you have specific questions or want to make arrangements to meet the dogs. We recently lost our commercial kennel so we are keeping most of the dogs at our home in Sunrise (West of Ft. Lauderdale). You can arrange to visit here or we can bring a specific dog or two to your home. Email or call. Greyhounds are Greyt - Make a fast friend today. (Less)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Lee is sweet brindle boy who is getting lost in brindle boy crowd in the kennel. Brindle is the most common greyhound color and more males race than females so I guess having a lot of brindle boys in the adoption kennel is just par for the course. Lee''s coat is not the usual black and fawn stripes or splotches. His coat is more of a mink look. His brindle is muted and subtle like a slightly out of focus photograph. It''s really quite beautiful and we don''t see that look very often. Lee has tested cat tolerant. Please know that we are very careful about our cat tests and try hard to get the right answers but how a new dog ... (Read More)reacts with the cat at your house may be different so proceed with caution in the beginning for the sake of the cat. That said, we have four greyhounds and three cats living together without a problem in our home. It can be done. And should any FoG dog need to come back to the kennel, whether because of cat issues or any other reason, we are here to welcome them back and start looking for a new, more appropriate, home for them. And we look for a greyhound that is a better fit for your home and for you! Greyhounds make wonderful pets.     My name is Cowboy and I am a 1 and 1/2 yr. old, 58 pound love bug. I love to be cuddled and will lavish you with big, sloppy kisses. I am a heartworm negative, neutered male who is fully vaccinated and current on heartworm and flea preventions. I don't mind being in my crate and I am not destructive; although I love to chomp on tennis balls. I'm a fast learner and I am eager to please my human. I love to be praised and petted. I totally enjoy my walks and my exuberance shows when you pick up the leash and I realize I'm going for a walk. I currently live with two other dogs and two cats. Running in the yard is one of my favorite pastimes. I ... (Read More)do have an inquisitive nature; therefore, my yard will need a 6 foot fence. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sarge is a skinny brindle boy with a white blaze on his chest and great, happy outlook on life. He is so ready for adoption! He's heard all about living with the humans when he was in the racing kennels and he can't wait to have a couch and a family to call his own. Sarge is an optimistic, happy boy. Sarge is still at his skinny-minny racing weight right now so come adopt him quickly so you can have the pleasure of fattening him up. No one is more appreciative of a good home than a retired racing dog. And no matter how bad your cooking is, he'll think you are ready to teach Emeril a thing or two!! Now, Sarge is not experienced in home ... (Read More)living yet but he is crate trained. When you adopt a greyhound we encourage you to use a crate (42' size works well) to get your new dog on your schedule. Greyhounds are used to a regular routine and learn new schedules well. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Max is a big tall boy who is so ready to be in a home. He was in one for a while but the kids drove him crazy and he needs a new spot. He has wonderful, classic brindle markings and his coat is soft. He has tested to be cat tolerant and will most likely get a long fine with a feline, given a proper introduction and a oversight in the beginning. Max is four years young. The general lifespan of greyhounds is 12 to 14 years so he is an adult and you don't have to take him through puppyhood but he has a whole lot of love left to give. He's a sweet boy who will go for a walk with you or watch TV on the couch. Greyhounds make great couch ... (Read More)potatoes.     Hi, My race name was Dk's Game Score but everyone just calls me 'Score'. I was a racer at the Melbourne Greyhound Park in Melbourne Florida. You know how some people in show business say 'break a leg' before they perform .......... Well I think some said that just before I started to race on the last day of the race season at that track. I was thrilled to find out that I would be with Greyhound Pets of America Central Florida unit they could find a home for me. I had surgery on my leg and after 6 weeks of being in a splint I am ready to learn to walk on my repaired leg so I am a little hesitant to use it just yet. I have been to ... (Read More)outings and met many small dogs of all kinds and like them all. When I was at the kennel they showed me a cat and it just did not interest me............ however when I went into one foster home they had a different looking cat and they told me that I was good with some cats but not all of them. I am in foster care right now and have not had even one accident. I have been spayed and got all my shots updated so I am soooo ready for a forever home like YOURS! Please call Dennis Tyler at 321-242-9010 and he will arrange a meeting with me! Thank you so much for considering adoption! (Less)

Basic Information: Kennel Name: Buddy, Color: Black, DOB: 11/22/11, Cat Test: Pending Adopt the disabled! Well for now - he has a cast on his leg. We''ve been told it was an ugly break. He sure gets around well on 3 legs though and he''ll be ''heck''%9D on wheels when that thing comes off. Other than the leg, he''s perfectly healthy. But with that in place, we haven''t cat tested him as yet. (Our cat test area is my living room and walking on tile or scatter rugs in a cast doesn''t give you good footing for a cat test. The only challenge with these special dogs is that they won't be with you for as long as the younger dogs. There is a lot to be said for adopting an older dog that a lot of people won't want, something to do with peace and satisfaction, for you and the dog. Max and Molly are not cat tolerant, or not tolerant enough to be a good fit in a home with our feline friends, so if you have a cat, you may want to pass. If you are one of those people who get great joy out of helping another soul and giving (as well as receiving) the comfort of seeing them spend their final years with dignity and can put them in a house with love and a soft bed, you will want to check out Max and Molly. Like myself, neither of these two act their age, they still have that old get up and go romp, but only for a short time just like the younger greyhounds, then it's back to the couch. I call them our pair of aces, and they would look good as a matched set, one at each end of your couch or love seat. You can call Michelle or Jerry at FOG, or email them and set up an appointment at your convenience. Although leaving the old kennel broke my heart (I was only a few minutes away), we now have the advantage of flexible visiting as opposed to the old five hours only on the weekend, you can most likely set up your most convenient time, and it's possible if you live in Broward, that they might even bring the dogs to your house to visit. It doesn't get much better than that, except maybe if they clean your house and wash your car, but don't expect that. For more information about adopting one or both of these deserving greyhounds, please visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org. (Less)

Animal ID: 50695Rocky (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Basic Info: Name: Rocky, Color: White and Red Fawn, DOB: 05/24/09, 5 years old, Racing Weight: 71 lbs. Rocky is a brand new addition to our kennel. In the kennel he is known as Handsome, so that will probably give you a little hint on his appearance, as I have not seen him yet. Rocky is five years old, pretty average at 71 pounds racing weight, and is white with some red fawn markings. I don't have any naked pictures of him yet, just him in his working uniform and he looks to be almost completely white except for his head, which is mostly fawn, or red fawn. He looks highly intelligent, but once again, I've only seen him from his left ... (Read More)side in his working uniform, and even I look intelligent from the left side. Rocky is closer to five and a half years and he raced at least 178 times according to The Greyhound Data information I have. He was most probably a good racer, and you have to be to race that long and that many races. You can find out all of his racing and medical history from Michelle or Jerry of Friends of Greyhounds, since they have access to more information than I do not have. Our boy Handsome has a healed broken leg, most probably the rear right, but I don't know if it was an earlier injury or a recent one that might have ended his career. As previously stated, you can get both his medical and racing history from Jerry or Michelle. I do know that Handsome is a people dog. He is a heavy leaner, which means he likes to lean on people, a lot like little kids like to wrap their arms around mom or dad for security. Rocky is most probably a very loving guy, just looking for someone to pay attention to and love him. You can easily find out first hand for yourself just by visiting him in our kennel, or, it's also entirely possible that we can bring him out to meet you at your house. Our kennel hours are very flexible now, you can see him at your convenience, or, if you're close enough, he might even come to you. Contact Jerry or Michelle through the website (www.friendsofgreyhounds.org) or call, they will be happy to tell you all about this beautiful retired racer. He is not cat tolerant, so if you have a feline or are one, you might want to pass on this guy, otherwise, it only takes a call or email to start the ball rolling, and you might just make a friend for life. PIease Read Before Adopting a Greyhound in Florida
Greyhound Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Greyhound is a reserved, elegant, intelligent breed. Greyhounds are gentle, sweet companions that can be a joy to own. Greyhounds are excellent choices for adoption as adults; former racers are already crate trained and easy to housebreak, and this dog adapts well to new owners. Greyhounds have a strong chasing instinct and should not typically be trusted with non-canine animals. Greyhounds do well with older, considerate children. They do not like to be teased. A Greyhound can live in an apartment and may even behave lazily indoors, but does need daily exercise. Greyhounds are sensitive to extreme cold and should wear a coat outside in the winter.
