Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Vicky is a very, very small red-brindle greyhound. We have only had her a little while but she is definitely sweet and loving and so very affectionate. She has had a serious leg injury that we need to learn more about so we will be getting her into the specialist after Memorial day. We''ll have more for you on Ms. Vickie as soon as we possibly can! When you adopt a dog from Friends of Greyhounds, the dog will have gone to the vet to be neutered and if there''s anything at all wrong or that you should know about that dog, we will give you all the records and vet information we have. We also provide a printout of the dog''s ... (Read More)lineage and racing history. We do all we can to give you a greyhound that is healthy and right for your home. These are great dogs and if you haven''t lived with one, you are in for a treat! More on Vicky as it becomes available. If you just can''t wait, feel free to reach out to us by email (fogdogs@comcast.net) or by phone. There''s several options on our profile pages. * * * * * * * * * To arrange to meet this dog and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for all the details. You'll find our manual of care, our application and lots of good information. We are based in South Florida and do not generally adopt out of our area. There are many other greyhound adoption groups in the country and we prefer that you adopt from a local group so that you and your new dog have the backup and support available if you have questions. If you are local and ready to visit, call us at 954-578-0072 to make an appointment to come to our kennel in Sunrise. If we're not around, the recording will give you our cell numbers. You can also email us at fogdogs@comcast.net We'd love to hear from you! Greyhounds make the most amazing pets. Come make a fast friend today. You'll be glad you did. (Less)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ironman is tall and handsome and has a whole lot of love to give. At 70 pounds, he still looks thin. He came to us last February and was adopted into a household with a mom, dad another greyhound and two children, 10 & 11. Everything was going great until mom went out one day and when she came home, Ironman was SOOOO excited to see her that he jumped on her. Her young son tried to grab his collar to save mom and in all the excitement, he was hurt by Ironman. It was more of a scratch than a bite and it happened in a split second. But mom and the kids were insecure around him after that and life was not good any more. So we agreed to bring ... (Read More)Ironman back to the kennel and find him a new, great home. Mom wrote up some notes for him. Among other things, she says that loves to go for walks with you. He will walk as far and as long as you can - - but he must mark everything for the first 3/4 mile!! He also enjoys barking at squirrels and cats and loves to have his rump scratched!! We have all of his records and history and vet records - - - Now all we need is a home. How about yours? Greyhound    Age: Adult

Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Andy is an extraordinary retired racing greyhound. One of four pups in his litter, he must have had lots of attention from his mom because he really likes women. He was a healthy, hard working dog and he ran 191 races. Racers are generally retired at 5 years old and Andy will be five next week. He's looking for a retirement home - - maybe your couch?? We have not cat tested Andy but i wouldn't hold out too much hope that he'll be tolerant of living with a cat. We'll see. He's a strong, healthy and smart boy. He's a bit older than some of our guys but with age comes wisdom and I've found that the mature dogs are way more appreciative of a ... (Read More)good home and take direction so much better. Greyhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Blondie is a lover. She spent most of her life in a kennel and craves to give and receive affection. She loves long walks, playtime (she loves to play fetch with her squeaky Kong tennis ball and going to the dog park). She also loves spending time cuddling on the couch and sleeping with you. She's a little bit timid at first in new situations but, warms up very quickly and is very social. Friends and even veterinarians who meet her fall madly in love with her. She's just a great girl. She likes other dogs, cats, kids and most everyone. She requires companionship, being part of your life. She is extremely smart and learns very quickly ... (Read More)through positive training. Affection is what motivates her. Blondie is 3 years old. She is house trained, she will bring your shoes out and other items but does not chew them. She is up to date on vaccines, is spayed and microchipped. Blondie weighs 70 lbs right now but is now trimming down with exercise. (Less)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Asia has just arrived in our adoption kennel and we're still getting to know her. She is a Brindle girl on the small side (for a greyhound) and a little on the shy side, but that may just be the new surroundings. She was born June 16, 2014 so she is under 2 years old. She is a healthy girl with a nice coat, tall ears, and a tail that is starting to wag. She'll be going to the vet very soon and will be available for adoption after that. She has not yet been cat tested. We will post that as soon as we can. And we'll give you more information as we get to know her. We do not mark the 'house trained' section because our greyhounds are ... (Read More)ex-racers and have not lived in a house. They are however crate trained and we will teach you how to transition that crate training into the easiest house training you've ever done. In the meantime, if you are considering adopting a greyhound, please call to plan a visit to our adoption kennel in Sunrise. For directions and more information, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org. Everything from photos to applications to the Adoption Manual and follow up letters from adopters is there. Rescue Me ID: 16-03-28-00428Denim (female)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Denim is girl!! When we saw her on our list, we thought Denim was a great boy''s name. Now that I''m used to it, I think it''s an even better girl''s name. Don''t you agree? Of course, if you adopt her, you can change it and it won''t hurt her feelings at all. Denim was born December 15th, 2011 and is four years young and ready to retire! She ran 108 professional races and now just wants to run around your yard. She is a Sagittarius by birth and it''s a good fit for her. The Greeks who gave us the zodiac signs said that Sagittarius was half human and half beast. Greyhounds are dogs (beasts) but they are so ... (Read More)intuitive with their owners and become so connected to them, it is easy to consider these dogs, like Denim, at least half human! Denim is a big, happy, strong girl but sweet and gentle in her nature. She may run and play like the dickens and then join you on the couch (if you let her on the couch) for a cuddle and a nap. We just completed Denim's cat testing and we do not think that she will be able to live with a cat. Her attention to our 'test cat' was just too intense and when he ran, she ran, too. Denim is not cat tolerant. Sagittarius is an active outdoor sign, always teeming with activity. When she''s on the go, it''s go-go-go. And when we stop, we nap, nap, nap!! Greys are especially easy to live with unless you like to vacuum a lot. Then you may find yourself moving her around. But they are flexible and forgiving and will go right back to sleep. Like the Sag, Denim and our other greyhounds are loving, devoted family members. If you have never owned a greyhound, be prepared to regret waiting so long to discover them!! Denim will steal your heart with little looks and tiny kisses. They are big dogs and they are not perfect because they have never lived in a home before and don''t know the rules yet. But they want to learn and you will have to teach her. It is time well spent to find a dog that wraps herself around your heart. To arrange to meet Denim and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for all the details. You'll find our manual of care, our application and lots of good information. We are based in South Florida and do not generally adopt out of our area.     Happy Harry is a greyhound who has just arrived in our adoption kennel and we're still getting to know him. Complete information will be posted when we have it. But, we can tell you that he is a big, happy go lucky, healthy boy. He is young and full of life. There's no way to be sad around this guy! His long tail travels a lot of distance in a day! He has a great appetite and a great outlook on life. What a handsome, wonderful addition he will be for someone's home. Harry is a dark brindle boy and will be going to the vet quite soon. We will have him neutered and he'll have all of his tests and shots so he's ready to go to a wonderful ... (Read More)home. After he's had time to heal a bit and collect his thoughts - and his toys - we will test him for cat tolerance and enter the results here. But for now, he hasn't been tested. So we'll know more about this handsome happy boy in time. In the meantime, if you are considering adopting a greyhound, please call to plan a visit to our adoption kennel in Sunrise. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Max has just turned five years young. The general lifespan of greyhounds is 12 to 14 years so he is an adult and you don't have to take him through puppyhood but he has a whole lot of love left to give. He's a sweet boy who will go for a walk with you or watch TV on the couch. Greyhounds make great couch potatoes. Greyhounds are also easy dogs to live with and want with all their heart just to please you. Max is healthy and up to date on all his shots and tests and is ready to go out the door. Max is a big tall boy who is so ready to be in a home. He was in one for a while but the kids drove him crazy and he needs a new spot. He has ... (Read More)wonderful, classic brindle markings and his coat is soft. He is quite big but has a lot of love inside. He'll do anything you can make him understand that you want. He loves to please and be with you. He has tested to be somewhat cat tolerant and will most likely get along with a feline, given a proper introduction and a oversight in the beginning. He would do probably do best with a cat with a dominant personality. But if the cat runs, he is likely to chase and greys are very fast. Friends of Greyhounds will even deliver him to your door! We like to bring the dog to your home so you can see how he handles your environment. Many ex-racing dogs have never gone up steps!! When you adopt a greyhound, you get to see the world through new eyes. Based in Sunrise, FoG adopts in the South Florida area and we can be reached at the office number 954-578-0072 or call our cell phones. The message has the numbers. PIease Read Before Adopting a Greyhound in Florida
Greyhound Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Greyhound is a reserved, elegant, intelligent breed. Greyhounds are gentle, sweet companions that can be a joy to own. Greyhounds are excellent choices for adoption as adults; former racers are already crate trained and easy to housebreak, and this dog adapts well to new owners. Greyhounds have a strong chasing instinct and should not typically be trusted with non-canine animals. Greyhounds do well with older, considerate children. They do not like to be teased. A Greyhound can live in an apartment and may even behave lazily indoors, but does need daily exercise. Greyhounds are sensitive to extreme cold and should wear a coat outside in the winter.
