Rescue Me ID: 17-05-17-00138Taylor (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Everybody loves white dogs so if you're considering Taylor, don't wait too long. He's handsome and sweet and has a great happy outlook on life. He ran 27 successful races but in the 28th, he was bumped and messed up his hind leg. He's been in a cast which has now gone away, and they determined he's not going to run professionally again. So Taylor has been retired. That's okay with us!! He'll be going to our vet very soon and we'll get a backup x-ray and will know get more information about the bad leg for the prospective adopters. He puts it down to walk but holds it up to run. It hasn't been that long since the injury. He doesn't put ... (Read More)weight on it right now but he does stand on it a bit. So if you have a lot of stairs, he might not be ready for your house. But for most of Florida's homes, he'll be a fine fit. For now, he's a happy go lucky guy trying to figure out what this adoption kennel routine is all about. Taylor is a real sweetheart and he is only two years old. He'll be three the end of June. He's a doll!! Great gentle personality and very good looking. To arrange to meet this dog and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for all the details. You'll find our manual of care, our application and lots of good information. We are based in South Florida and do not generally adopt out of our area. If you are local and ready to visit, call us at 954-578-0072 to make an appointment to come to our kennel in Sunrise. If we're not around, the recording will give you our cell numbers. Call us!! You can also email us at fogdogs@comcast.net We'd love to hear from you! Greyhounds make the most amazing pets. Come make a fast friend today. You'll be glad you did. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-05-17-00133Savvy (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Savvy is a handsome dark fawn (nearly red) dog. I guarantee that you will love watching this guy run for fun in your backyard or at the dog park. Those muscles just ripple like the lifeguards in an old muscle beach movie!! Annette would have saved a lot of heartbreaks if she'd chosen Savvy instead of that surfer!! Greyhounds are sweet and gentle and clean dogs who enjoy a soft bed, good food, air conditioning and maybe a squeaky toy or two! When they run, they run really fast but most of the time they curl up and nap. They never try to hog the remote control but that throw pillow might be a different story. You should come meet Savvy and ... (Read More)the other greys in the kennel. It's sooo worth the trip from anywhere. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This handsome boy is Herman and he arrived with his littermate/ brother Buford who is also available for adoption. Herman is a good natured, happy boy with a white coat with brindle patches. He is tall and strong and would love a fenced yard to run in a couple times a day and then a fluffy bed to nap in a couple times a day. Herman may be very athletic but he's still a greyhound and that means he sleeps a LOT. They are easy dogs to live with. Herman spent four hours at a Pet Supermarket booth today with me and he was sooo happy to meet everyone. He was the center of attention and he absolutely loved it. He has just turned 3 years old and ... (Read More)he is ready for a great home - - like yours!! This is a sweet, affectionate dog who is large enough and strong enough to look like a guard dog even though he really isn't. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Buford and his brother Herman arrived at our adoption kennel together and they are quite a team. Both big, handsome boys and I know they will each make great pets. They are happy and curious and have a lot of love to give. Buford is Fawn Brindle in color. The photos don't really do him justice. He's a gorgeous color of coffee with lots of cream in it and some dark streaks passing through. He is tall so there's no bending over to pet him. He will always be ready and at the right height. He is a real sweetheart. You should meet him!! To arrange to meet this dog and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org ... (Read More)for all the details.     Stormy loves everything and is always ready to go - - well, unless she's due for a nap. She can run, run, run and then she's ready to nap, nap, nap. Even young greyhounds like Stormy take their naps regularly! Walks are nice but nothing beats a good pillow. Stormy is healthy, happy, and three years old. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Posey is on the smaller side for a male greyhound. He raced at only 62 pounds. If you are looking for a smaller male greyhound, better speak up fast. Posey is 3 years old, a beautiful brindle color, healthy, happy and as a bonus, he has GREAT ears!! So expressive! Posey is healthy and curious and wants to be part of everything that's going on. He'll make a great house dog and will quickly become a member of the family. Greyhounds are clean and gentle and sleep a lot so they aren't demanding all the time. They never complain about the food or ask for an allowance. They require a soft spot to sleep in and they show their gratitude for the ... (Read More)food you serve. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-13-00350Domino (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Domino raced under the name A Star Mr. Domino and had 106 races. He has an amazing pedigree but even the best racers are retired eventually and so Domino is looking for a home at the ripe old age of 3. Greyhounds have a natural life span of 10 - 13 years which is actually pretty good for large dog. So his retirement will be longer than his career!! He'd really love to spend it with you. He is a large, strong boy who only wants to please people. He's happy and healthy and loves life. He's looking forward to what comes next. He will make a great house dog! A lot of people don't want to adopt black dogs. They think they are scary or mean but ... (Read More)they aren't. They are just a different color!! It's the way the genes distributed when the litter was born and it has no beariing on their personality. Many groups won't accept the black dogs because they are harder to adopt. We like to explain to people about the problem and hope that they will step forward and give some of these wonderful, gentle giants who happen to be black, a good home. (please read our section on our website about 'The Black Dog Problem'!) To arrange to meet this dog and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for all the details. Rescue Me ID: 17-04-13-00315Casey (male)

Greyhound    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Casey has just arrived in the kennel and he is very, very insecure. He is only 19 months old and didn't run any professional races. He is young and strong and I am sure there's a very sweet boy locked inside of him. He has huge eyes that just plead with you not to hurt him. He is afraid of noises, and of change and of rain and thunder. He doesn't bark or react and is not at all protective. He just tries with all his might to run away and he is very good at that. Normally our dogs are bathed before they go to the vet and i tried to do that. He needs a good bath but he is so very scared that it wasn't fair to him to keep trying. So he went ... (Read More)to the vet dirty. We love our vets for understanding that these are not ordinary dogs. They have not had ordinary lives. ADDED - We were told by Casey's kennel handlers that he would calm down and be less afraid. We have had Casey for two weeks now and they were right. He's not Mr. Congeniality yet but he is definitely better than he was. Jerry even got a kiss from him! He definitely is more relaxed with men. Investing time in this guy will yield amazing dividends. He's big/ stocky and the markings on his face make him always look worried. But he learns routine and likes a nice ear rub once in a while. There's a sweet, sweet boy inside that blanket of insecurity. Casey is handsome in his own big dog way. He will require an understanding and quiet family with a VERY well fenced yard and a whole lot of patience. But I predict that this guy will at some point, relax and accept this family and his home. And I will go out on a limb, based on previous dogs we've seen come through here, that he will be a wonderful, loving and totally devoted dog. It will take time but it will be worth it. Stability is the key for him. Can you provide that?? He needs a lot of love. To arrange to meet this dog and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for all the details. You'll find our manual of care, our application and lots of good information. Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kango is tall and dark and handsome. He's a big, rowdy 'teenager'. He has a very dark brindle coat and strong features and looks scary like a guard dog should. He would be a great guard dog if jumping at people to get them to pet you is considered 'guarding'. He is very strong and very tall and just wants a good home with a yard and a good reason to run a little each day. (ball throwing or another big dog would work!!) He's only three years old and still has a lot of energy. Kango had a very bad fall in his last race and he's been healing for some time now. He's not perfect but he's a huge lump of love and he's ready for a home. Kango ... (Read More)would do best with a fenced yard and absolutely no cats. He is very fast and very prey driven. PIease Read Before Adopting a Greyhound in Florida
Greyhound Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Greyhound is a reserved, elegant, intelligent breed. Greyhounds are gentle, sweet companions that can be a joy to own. Greyhounds are excellent choices for adoption as adults; former racers are already crate trained and easy to housebreak, and this dog adapts well to new owners. Greyhounds have a strong chasing instinct and should not typically be trusted with non-canine animals. Greyhounds do well with older, considerate children. They do not like to be teased. A Greyhound can live in an apartment and may even behave lazily indoors, but does need daily exercise. Greyhounds are sensitive to extreme cold and should wear a coat outside in the winter.

lnteresting Greyhound Trivia Low-Cost Florida Spay & Neuter Clinics
Greyhounds are the fastest dogs in the world. Greyhounds can run over 40 miles per hour. The Greyhound is one of the most ancient dog breeds. Greyhounds are descended from Middle Eastern dogs but have been in England since before 900 A.D. Retired racing Greyhounds are usually put down unless they are adopted!
