Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Oshkosh Fella is a very handsome, red brindle young boy. He is truly built for speed but he's now looking for a nice retirement home. He'll want to run a couple times a week but only for a few minutes. Then a comfy couch or pillow and a buddy to watch TV with and that will complete a greyhound's dream home! Fella is four years old & his birthday is February 8, 2013. But he's such a sweetheart, he should have been born on Valentine's day. He's a gorgeous boy and won't last long here at the kennel. He's not going to be good with a cat but he is a sweetheart of a dog and won't last long. Come visit Fella! If you have room to share with Fella ... Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is Mercury. He has just arrived in our kennel and he's a beautiful, very red, slender boy. He came to us with a body that's definitely built for speed. He's young and energetic and is going to be a very sweet pet. He had a number of small nicks and scratches and what looked like gouges from the track but they are healing amazingly quickly and many are not even visible any longer. He came to us rough but he's gonna be a knock out once he's in the softer environment of a real home. He flunked his cat test so he is not a good fit for a home with a cat. (Small dogs may be another story as dogs know the difference.) He's smart, young, and ... (Read More)has the potential to be gorgeous!! He'll be a great housedog. Retired racing Greyhounds make wonderful pets. They've had a lot of training that translates very well into housedog behavior. We would love for you to come meet this greyhound and all of his kennel-mates. Rescue Me ID: 17-09-25-00098Kelley (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kelly is a very special guy with a shiny black coat . He is a medium size for a greyhound and only 4 years old. He has a whole lot of love to give! He is really fast and would love to run around with you in the backyard. But going to a dog park once in a while is okay, too!! And once he's run, he'll sleep like a baby for the next three days! Kelly has a some training to live in a house already. He was in a home for four months and they loved him dearly. He was originally called PJ Loaded Dice (his race name) but they named him Kelly. They had a fenced yard of gorgeous green grass of over an acre and it was truly greyhound heaven. Mom ... (Read More)spoiled him with home cooked chicken and Dad took him everywhere. BUT. . . Kelly resented the six grandchildren when they came to visit and he finally snapped at one. That's a greyhound no-no and he had to come back to us. Kelly (yes you can change his name - it's okay) doesn't need an acre to run in but he does need a new home - without children. He's a good boy and wants someone to love. He already knows all about living in a home. He doesn't have accidents in the house and he doesn't bark unless it's necessary (burglars, UPS, etc.) and he has a whole lot of love to give. We even have a letter from his first mom who will tell you about Kelly in her own words. Wouldn't you like to have a beautiful, healthy, young dog who is already housetrained??? Greyhounds are the easiest big dog you ever lived with - just ask anybody you see with one!! And Kelly is definitely a sweetheart. He only wants to please you. He has a beautiful black coat and great ears. Greys love to travel. They have been driven from track to track and are great at jumping into the car and riding long distances. They lie down and take a nap!! Once they know your rules, they will do everything they can to be the best roommate you ever had. Friends of Greyhounds wants to find the right home for each of our dogs and we don't want anyone to live with a dog that isn't right for them. We'll do all we can to help you find the right dog and in turn help each greyhound find the right home. **** To arrange to meet Kelly and our other available greys, visit our website: www.friendsofgreyhounds.org for all the details. You'll find our manual of care, our application and lots of good information. We are based in South Florida and adopt locally so you and your new dog have the backup and support available if you have questions. If you have questions or are ready to visit, call us at 954-578-0072 to make an appointment to come to our kennel in Sunrise. If we're not around, the recording will give you our cell numbers. You can also email us at fogdogs@comcast.net We'd love to hear from you! Greyhounds make the most amazing pets. Come make a fast friend today. You'll be glad you did. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-09-25-00092Jagger (male)

Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Basic Info: Racing Name: DKC Jagger, Kennel Name; Jag, Color: Brindle, DOB: 05/23/09 Jagger is a handsome brindle dog, strong and well behaved. His racing name was DKC Jagger and he ran 151 races in West Virginia before his trainer brought him down to South Florida to Friends of Greyhounds. He figured this guy would appreciate a retirement in Florida!! We found him a great dad in Hollywood and the two of them were inseparable. But dad''s health has deteriorated and the assisted living home won''t let Jagger join him. At the age of 8, he is homeless for reasons beyond his control. The photos with the brown fence background are from ... (Read More)his first adoption in May, 2014, but he still looks a lot like that - just a bit heavier which on him, looks really good. Racing dogs are too skinny anyway. We''ll get new photos up soon - or you can come meet him in person at our kennel in Sunrise. (Phone numbers are below - or email me!!) So Jagger is back with Friends of Greyhounds. It has taken a some time but he is adjusting to kennel life again. Jagger has lived in a home and will not require any training. He''s a sweetheart of a guy, polite and quiet and well behaved. Greyhounds have a natural lifespan of 12 to 14 years so he has a lot of love left to give. He''s excellent on a leash but would love an off-leash run at a dog park or fenced yard once or twice a week, just to get the kinks out. Other than his age, his only other slightly negative point is that he is not cat or kid tolerant. He likes people and most other dogs - depending on the other dog's personality. Jagger is a laid back and quiet sort of guy. Senior dogs make the best pets. They already know the basic rules and they value their quiet time. They are patient and loving. They don''t need all those trips to the park and they really like taking naps with you!. Jagger is healthy and happy but homeless. He deserves a good home. Can you help with that? Contact Michelle at 954-937-9663 (cell) or 954-578-0072 (office/kennel) or by email fogdogs@comcast.net. We know the right home is out there for Jagger. If we find the right home, we will be willing to discount the adoption fee in acknowledgement of Jagger''s age. He's a good dog and a sweet spirit. Come make a fast friend today. You''ll be glad you did. (Less)

Greyhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is the story of a very kind and sweet female dog by the name of Brandi. About a week ago, I received a call from one of our volunteer who was looking to pull a dog our of the Sebring Shelter in central Florida. That Shelter is a high kill and Brandi was on the list to be euthanized that afternoon. There was something about her picture and something about her video. It shows how scared she was, completely submissive and would not move. She seemed old but is not and she surely had a past. She was a stray and after watching that video we just knew we had to save her. Finally she came to boarding a few days ago and she is what I was ... (Read More)expecting so docile and so sweet. She is also beautiful with her brindle coat. Brandi remind us of a greyhound or whippet when she walks. It is like she walks on air. She is very stylish and after being in a home for a few days I can see her blossom to a wonderful dog. She is 2 1/2 years old . Dog friendly. 47LBS. Saw her today in boarding and it was a completely different dog. She looked so good and is the sweetest dog I ever saw for a long time. She loves everyone...... We are so glad we were able to save her!!!!!!!!!!! Interested in meeting her please fill out the application online at www.findahomegiveahome.com. Thanks for considering Brandi. And great with cats!!!!!!!!! (Less)

Greyhound Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

**********We do not adopt outside of the Tampa Bay area************** For more information, please email: InquiryForNewHorizonDogRescue@gmail.com. Please include your phone number and the foster parent will contact you directly. 52 lbs 2 years of age Crate Trained Microchipped Housebroken As close to perfect as you can get! BJ was taken from an extremely overcrowded animal control facility that puts dogs down when they need space. At that facility BJ sat proudly and quietly in his kennel while other dogs were bouncing off the walls. His eyes alone drew us to him. Then his temperament: calm, respectful and warm. On his ride to our rescue ... (Read More)location BJ came forward from the backseat only to gently kiss a total stranger to him, a passenger pup sitting in the front seat. Once BJ arrived to our rescue he proved himself to be a stellar creature. He was quarantined with another dog from that shelter whose playful behavior was nipping and annoying. BJ was consistently patient with her. When she would nip his ear instead of growling or biting back, he would just turn his head again and again to protect his ear. Although she was overly zealous in play, laid back BJ not once showed her disrespect. BJ's owners did not provide BJ with responsible heartworm prevention. He is currently under a highly successful protocol that will render him heartworm free in 7-8 months, which will be provided in full to his adopter. If there were any dog we would keep in our rescue it's BJ; he continues to impress us with his balanced behavior with all living creatures; other dogs immediately trust him. He's a supreme leader of the pack. Depriving any dog of good nutrition deprives him of living a long and healthy life. Grain-free foods are what a dog needs and deserves. Rotate manufacturers. Why feed a dog the same food month after month? That only creates a dependency on the same food. Further, no dog food has it all. Take advantage of various food manufacturer's formulas. Your dog will benefit and love you for it! Greyhound    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Logan originally came to us as a retired racing dog. His racing name was Fuzzys Bob Dylan and he was born in 8/16/11. He only had 6 race and the gave him to us to adopt out November, 2013. By New Years Day, 2014, he was in his new home. But it is a big family and he had some problems. Logan came back to us June 1, 2017. Friends of Greyhounds works with our families that may have a problem with a dog but we are always here to take back a dog if that is what the family wants. We do ask that they write up some detail (the good and the bad) so that a new family knows what they are getting with this dog. Because we are honest and open about ... (Read More)return reasons, we have a better chance of getting a dog into the right home the second time. We have a detailed letter about Logan's life and problems in his old home so we don't repeat these scenarios. Logan never had a problem with the immediate family but did not like other people coming into the house and he is willing to be protective. So Logan is back in the kennel. He's not happy with the food but otherwise is handling it quite well. He has been very sweet to everyone here, human & canine. He is a good looking boy if you are willing to look past a bevvy of scars and a few missing toes. He has beautiful eyes and deserves a break. He is not cat tolerant and because of his history, I would prefer he be in a home with adults. We would love for you to come meet Logan and all of his kennel-mates. PIease Read Before Adopting a Greyhound in Florida
Greyhound Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Greyhound is a reserved, elegant, intelligent breed. Greyhounds are gentle, sweet companions that can be a joy to own. Greyhounds are excellent choices for adoption as adults; former racers are already crate trained and easy to housebreak, and this dog adapts well to new owners. Greyhounds have a strong chasing instinct and should not typically be trusted with non-canine animals. Greyhounds do well with older, considerate children. They do not like to be teased. A Greyhound can live in an apartment and may even behave lazily indoors, but does need daily exercise. Greyhounds are sensitive to extreme cold and should wear a coat outside in the winter.
